Response to Questions About Passover Seder
Details about our upcoming Passover Seder
The aim of this Passover Dinner is to combat antisemitism by helping Jews and Christians to build a deeper understanding of each other’s faith.
It is an opportunity for Jewish people to invite their Christian friends to a Seder, where they can learn how the Passover is of central significance in Christianity. Our hope is that this will help Christians appreciate the ‘jewishness’ of Jesus and their own faith, and equip Jewish people to defend the ‘jewishness’ of Christianity and so build bridges and combat antisemitism.
At Never Again Is Now we have a clear non-proselytizing policy. This dinner is not an opportunity for anyone to try and convert anyone to their ‘side’. We believe in treating everyone as adults, capable of listening, learning, and appreciating each other’s similarities and differences.
Our mission is to build a grassroots movement across the country, of Jews, Christians, and other supporters, dedicated to making antisemitism unthinkable.
At this Passover the food will be ‘kosher style’, catered by Lox, Stock and Barrel. This will obviously exclude those who require fully kosher dining. Given that this event was not aimed primarily at the Jewish community we didn’t think this was a problem. We may well re-think this if we do it again.
I will emcee the event. I have asked an old friend of mine Lawrence Hirsch to lead us through the liturgy. Lawrence is a Messianic Jew from Melbourne. I asked him because I don’t know anyone better than him at helping Christians understand the significance of the Passover. He has been running Passovers for Christians in Australia for 30 years, and in that time has personally visited over 1500 churches, and spoken to around 150,000 people in those churches educating them about the Jewishness of Jesus and the importance of standing with the Jewish people and with Israel.
This is the first time we have tried this. We are learning and will certainly make mistakes. When we do, please assume incompetence, rather than conspiracy!
