The Names of God: A Call to Unity Against Antisemitism

The Names of God inspire us all to stand together against antisemitism and uphold values of love, justice, and compassion.

Now more than ever, we are called to stand together against hatred and unite in love and solidarity for our neighbours and our nation.

As Australians, we pride ourselves on fairness and equality, values rooted in a shared moral tradition.

Today, I invite you to reflect on the names of God. These names are profound revelations of His character—and how they call us to enter into relationship with him and echo His Character.

Jehovah-Shalom: The Lord Is Peace

Hatred festers where peace is absent. Jehovah-Shalom, the God of peace, reminds us that lasting harmony requires effort, empathy, and courage. As the Apostle Paul writes in Romans 12:18, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

Peace is not passive—it’s active, and it begins in our hearts and homes. When we reject hateful speech, challenge antisemitic ideas, and teach our children the value of every human being, we reflect the peace of Jehovah-Shalom. Together, we can create spaces where all communities feel safe and valued.

El Olam: The Everlasting God

Antisemitism is nothing new—it is a scourge that has persisted across generations. Yet El Olam, the Eternal God, reminds us that while hatred may seem enduring, God’s justice and love are timeless. History has shown us that those who stand for truth and righteousness ultimately triumph, even against overwhelming odds.

As we reflect on El Olam, we are reminded of our responsibility to leave a legacy of compassion and courage for future generations. The fight against antisemitism is not just about today—it is about creating a world where hatred has no place, now and forever.

Jehovah-Tsidkenu: The Lord Our Righteousness

God’s righteousness is the foundation of His throne (Psalm 89:14). Jehovah-Tsidkenu, the Lord of Justice, calls us to stand against injustice in all its forms. Antisemitism is an affront to God’s justice because it denies the inherent worth of those created in His image.

When we advocate for our Jewish neighbors, when we speak up against discrimination and educate others about its dangers, we become agents of God’s righteousness in the world. This is not about politics; it is about reflecting the heart of God, who loves justice and calls us to love our neighbours as ourselves.

Jehovah-Nissi: The Lord Our Banner

Throughout history, God has been a banner of hope for His people—a rallying point in times of trial. Today, Jehovah-Nissi calls us to lift a banner of unity, to boldly declare that antisemitism has no place in Australia or anywhere in the world.

This is not a task for one community alone; it is a charge for all of us. Whether we march in solidarity, speak out on social media, or support organisations that combat hate, we proclaim that love is stronger than fear and unity is stronger than division. Under the banner of Jehovah-Nissi, we find the courage to stand firm and the strength to persevere.

Immanuel: God With Us

In the fight against antisemitism, it can feel overwhelming to confront such deep-seated hatred. But Immanuel, God With Us, assures us that we are never alone. God walks with us in every step we take to build a more just and compassionate world.

When we embrace our Jewish neighbours, celebrate their contributions to our society, and protect their right to live without fear, we embody the spirit of Immanuel. Together, we can create a nation where every person feels the presence of love, respect, and safety.

A Call to Action

As Australians, we are better when we stand together. Antisemitism is not just a Jewish issue—it is a human issue, a national issue, and a spiritual issue. It demands our collective response.

Let us strive to be peacemakers in the spirit of Jehovah-Shalom. Let us embrace the eternal perspective of El Olam, knowing that our actions today shape the future. Let us pursue justice with the heart of Jehovah-Tsidkenu and raise a banner of hope under Jehovah-Nissi. And above all, let us walk with Immanuel, knowing that God is with us in every step toward a brighter, more loving world.

Today, I challenge you to reflect on these names of God and what they reveal about His character. How can you embody His peace, justice, and love in your community? How can you take a stand against antisemitism, whether through education, advocacy, or simply being a voice for truth?

The task before us is great, but so is the God who walks with us. Together, we can ensure that antisemitism has no place in Australia. Together, we can proclaim, “Never Again Is Now.”

As we reflect on the Names of God and their profound relevance today, let us remember that these names are more than words—they represent the attributes of a holy, compassionate, and righteous God who calls us to live as reflections of His character.

In standing against antisemitism, we honour His justice, love, and truth.
